This fairytale stone cottage was designed by TKP Architects in collaboration with Old Greenwich Builders, located in Genesee, Jefferson County, Colorado. This award-winning and intimate cottage was rebuilt on the site of a deteriorating outbuilding.
A tiny guest cottage of just 500 square feet, the timeless design was inspired by old National Parks rough-stone shelters that the owners had fallen in love with. The roof of the cottage is a natural slate with copper flashings.
A single living space boasts custom built-ins for jewelry work, a Murphy bed (folding in front of the fireplace) for overnight guests, and a stone fireplace for warmth and relaxation. A cozy loft nestles behind rustic timber trusses above, accessed by a ladder. There is also a bathroom with a shower. Expansive sliding glass doors open to an outdoor living terrace overlooking a serene wooded meadow.
What We Love: This fairytale stone cottage is a cozy place to host overnight guests, with charming details throughout. We are loving the compact design and efficient use of space. A fireplace brings warmth and ambiance to this space. Overall, we think this would be an amazing place to retreat for a long weekend, we are ready to pack our bags!

Everything in this cottage is authentic. Copper flashings and gutters, real slate roof, reclaimed timbers and flooring, custom-made windows and doors. Floor plans can be purchased at kkeating@tkparch.com
All the walls in this cottage are horizontal hemlock boards, with a light white-washing of paint in Benjamin Moore’s “Oatmeal”. Timber trusses were fabricated from reclaimed Southern Yellow Pine from a tobacco warehouse. They were not stained but rather sealed with a clear sealer with a matte finish.
The fireplace stone is Colorado moss rock boulders. Grout is recessed in a dry-stack style. The floor is reclaimed southern yellow pine planks, 1 ½” thick, from a factory. No stain was used; the color of the wood is a patina built up from generations of use. The planks were sealed with clear, matte polyurethane.
Above: A ladder in the living room leads to a sleeping loft. It is a custom-made steel ladder. Each step is a leaf design and it was sized precisely for the space.
The desk was a custom piece built by a cabinet company to look like a handpainted antique. The desktop is Silestone, in color “Amazon Leather”.

Above: This cozy bathroom features a porthole window. This window was custom-made for the house by a custom window fabricator. The sink is a custom concrete sink fabricated by Concrete Habitat in Spokane, WA.
