This custom-designed home was completed by Spivey Architects, located in Mount Pleasant, a large suburban town in Charleston County, South Carolina. Having remodeled in the past, the homeowners decided to build this time, finding a beautiful property in the Brickyard Plantation neighborhood of Mount Pleasant. This particular area contains 513 acres, more than 100 of which are reserved for lakes, forests, and wetlands. The property itself is very unique, as there is the main residence and a land bridge connecting to a small island on the same property.
From design to build, the project took two-and-a-half years to complete. The architects did not want the homeowners to move too hastily on design decisions, taking a year to complete just the design phase. Their take on the process is that most homeowners usually build just once, and they want them to get it right the first time. Overall, the home encompasses just over 5,000 square feet of living space for this family of five. Continue below to see the rest of this stunning home…
There are a total of five bedrooms, with the master bedroom suite and children’s bedrooms on the second level. When the homeowners have guests spend the night, they can have their own space on the downstairs level. On the exterior, bluestone is used as the material for the patio space, which also features a fire pit. From the patio, the small island and dock are just a short distance away. There is a boardwalk over the marsh to the island and dock, presenting a very unique outdoor experience.
The interior offers a warm and inviting transitional style. Because of their military background, the homeowners had lived in many places, so they wanted to combine contemporary and historic elements.

Above: The architect designed a “man cave” above the garage. It features a home theater and bar area, rich leather sofas, and an area to play poker. The space is also personalized with the husband’s military memorabilia. Several pieces were resin-embedded and encased in epoxy on the bar. These consist of coins and patches from flying helicopters spanning a few decades.
