Doyle Coffin Architecture meticulously designed this Adirondack-inspired home to seamlessly harmonize with its picturesque lakeside setting in Ridgefield, Connecticut. The timber frame design encompasses 7,000 square feet of living space and combines stunning architectural features with exquisite interior design, creating a unique living space. The dwelling unfolds as a carefully composed arrangement of interconnected volumes that follow the curves of the shoreline.
The primary living spaces within the post-and-beam structure tastefully connect the built environment with the natural environment. The front entry opens into a cathedral-style family room showcasing arching trusses and expansive windows framing tranquil lake views. The unique topography and the desire for proximity to the waterfront inspired the design of the lower level, which houses the kitchen, porch, living room, study, dining room, and owner’s bedroom. Here, 11-foot-high wood plank ceilings create a warm atmosphere, complemented by stone chimneys, walnut cabinets, and white oak flooring.
Thoughtfully curated furnishings, including a โlive-edgeโ dining table, leather chairs, and modern glass pendant lights, add a touch of rustic charm and contemporary flair. Each room on the lower level has access to an interconnected series of terraces and planted spaces for quiet reflection or lakeside entertainment.
Distinctive โconnectorsโ serve both practical and aesthetic purposes. On the upper level, a built-in bar and sitting area define these spaces with a refined aesthetic. Meanwhile, the lower level connectors accommodate a breakfast bar, powder room, and an intimate daybed nook, creating unique and inviting spaces for family and friends to gather and enjoy.

This house was also designed to be environmentally responsible. Sustainable initiatives such as geothermal heat, solar panels, super-insulated walls and roof, and locally sourced materials create an eco-friendly home that offers a comfortable living space and minimizes its environmental impact. It showcases a harmonious blend of modern living and sustainable practices.
