The laundry room is no longer just for laundry anymore, in most houses it’s increasingly become an important family hub, which makes it essential for this space to be well organized to make it work harder and have an improved design aesthetic. A well-designed laundry room should have great storage, be comfortable to work in and help you to facilitate your chores. To create a more functional space, having foldout drying racks or closet rods for hanging fine delicates can be very useful. Versatile storage cabinets, places to store dirty laundry, and easy to hang wall shelving are just a few of the current trends in laundry room storage ideas. Decorating your laundry room space with some whimsical wall art can help to complete your laundry room decor and make the space feel more comfortable and less like a chore room. Utilitarian spaces such as laundry and mudrooms rarely get the design attention that they deserve, they are usually the last space the homeowner wants to invest money in, even though they are spaces that are used quite often.

Once you have all of the functional aspects out of the way, you can move on to the fun part, decorating the space with paint, wall and window coverings, furnishings and decorative elements that will help stimulate those mundane chores.

When you remodel your laundry area, create increase functionality to the space by adding smart built-ins. You can add shelving and cabinetry so that you can tuck away all of your laundry supplies, such as laundry baskets or bins, detergent, clothes bags, dryer balls, irons, ironing boards, bag of clothespins and even sewing kits. An ironing board can also be housed in this area, either in a closet or incorporated on a cabinet where it folds out. You can also have rails to hang clothes to dry or clothes that you have finished ironing… or just use as extra clothes storage space if room permits. Design a Multi-Purpose Laundry Room
If you live in a smaller house, then using your laundry area for multi-purpose activities such as laundry/mudroom, can be an excellent space saver. Since the laundry typically has a sink, it is the perfect spot to not only wash your hands when you come in from outside, but also to bathe your fur kids! You can also use the space to feed your pets and even house a litter box, whether built into the cabinetry or just on the floor. Its a great place to set up a shoe rack for everyday shoes, keep your sporting equipment and some hooks on the wall next to the door for your jackets. If you have space to incorporate a built-in desk, you can use it to sort mail, keep cell phones and your keys (you can also mount an entryway organizer on the wall for a space saver, Etsy has a few great ideas to help you get started, a DIY project in the making!) You could also use your desk as a craft and wrapping area, all you need is the right organization and some shelving units. The key to your design is to brainstorm what your family needs most in this space and be sure it gets added into your room.
Decorate your Laundry Room
Since there is not much counter space in the laundry, focus more on your walls when you are decorating. Brightly hued pair or decorative wall treatments or even decals and murals can make your chores a lot more enjoyable. You could also add a playful sign, artwork and posters to infuse some personality into this space. Your storage containers can also be considered as decor, source baskets, bins and even fabric-covered hangers that feature playful prints and colorful fabrics. Have fun with it, your laundry space does not have to be boring!
The marble checkerboard floor and black cabinetry makes this laundry room unusually elegant. What do you think?
A folding table is a great addition to any laundry space, place it close to the dryer to you can immediately fold clothes before they get wrinkled. A countertop also works well, which can be built-in adjacent to the washer and dry or above for a more compact laundry room. A drying rack is the perfect addition to a laundry space for delicates to hang instead of risking them to the dryer! A hidden ironing board helps keep the space tidy and organized and comes in handy when something comes out of the dryer to wrinkly to wear. Make your laundry space a one-stop shop to be sure all your chores get completed!
