Design Challenge
The primary challenge of this project was to craft a home on a steep hillside that honors the site and enhances its natural beauty. When siting this home. The view corridor necessitated that the structure be constructed into the middle of the hillside. This required massive grading and extensive retaining walls. Merging materials such as steel, concrete, and natural wood helped the house settle into its distinctive terrain. To take advantage of the views, the upper level of the house is positioned atop a knoll. The lower level tucks into the hillside, receiving shelter from the cantilevered wing.
What We Love About This Home
This hillside house in California wine country blends modern design with sweeping vineyard views. Its cantilevered bedroom wing adds a unique sculptural element that we find particularly appealing, as it appears to float above the hillside. Outdoor living spaces, including terraced patios and a cascading water feature, create seamless connections to the landscape. From every angle, this home captures the natural beauty of the Russian River Valley, making it a truly spectacular sanctuary.

Cantilevered Bedroom Suite
A unique feature of this house is the bedroom wing, which adds a sculptural element with its cantilevered form, appearing to float effortlessly above the hillside. The cantilevered room extends above the valley floor, the Russian River, and its famous vineyards.
The lower level follows the natural grade of the terrain, with a subterranean wine cellar tucked into the hill.

The design includes a cascading water feature that gently terraces from the pool to a reflecting pool at the lower patio and integrates seamlessly with the landscape, exterior pathways, and steps.
The entire home is flanked by an elegant outdoor living space with a pool and cascading fountain, a sanctuary for family and guests.
