Colonial-style home with a stunning contemporary twist in Menlo Park

colonial-style-home-exterior

This gorgeous Colonial-style home was designed for a family of five by Bay Area Designs together with Fiorella Design, located in Menlo Park, a city in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. The home was constructed from the ground up after the previous house that resided on this lot was demolished. The homeowners desired a traditional look in the front with a more modern aesthetic at the back.

Inside, you will find a beautiful mix of modern and traditional details. An impressive feature of this home is the floating steel staircase, the main focal point that is set in front of a double-story window wall. Another highlight of this dwelling is the steel patio doors that open from the family room to the backyard. A swimming pool was added as a direct view from the staircase.

The home’s overall feeling was to nod to tradition at moments but overall to be fresh, clean, and contemporary. They wanted a bright and happy home for their three young children. You can see this in the paneling, the trim, the cabinetry, and the finish selections. The designer worked with the homeowner to pull items they liked and make the house cohesive with the architecture. The rooms should be elegant while feeling comfortable and inviting.

What We Love: This colonial-style home features beautiful contemporary styling throughout its living spaces. We love the modern steel staircase design, providing an attractive design element in front of the large glass window wall. The expansive glazing at the rear of this home helps to flood the living spaces with natural light, enhancing the airy, open feel. The seamless blend of classic and contemporary details creates a welcoming atmosphere that is perfect for everyday living and entertaining.
