MA Peterson Designbuild together with Brown Cow Design has beautifully renovated this 100-year-old home located in Tangletown, a neighborhood in the Southwest community of Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was significant to the homeowners that the remodel didn’t feel “brand new” but instead relished in its historic charm while bringing forth a modern layout.

From daytime warmth to nighttime sophistication, this dwelling features exquisitely restored barnwood flooring, handcrafted kitchen tiles, a no-mortar fireplace encompassing the wall, and so much more. Take the tour of the rest of this gorgeous home renovation project below…

An open main layout, updated mechanics, and an expanded garage modernize this home for today’s needs while fitting the homeowners’ historic, eclectic style and authenticity. The remodel features multiple areas for seamless entertaining, from daytime warmth to nighttime sophistication.

Above: This inviting living room features soft textures, geometric patterns, a mix of materials, and cozy layers. Adding visual interest, a striking accent wall made of black Wisconsin-mined stone veneer brings warmth into the room. Crowning the fireplace is ledge stone, complementing the European-inspired aesthetic of the residence. The overhead Dressage Round Chandelier designed by Suzanne Kasler was sourced from Visual Comfort & Co.

Above: The entryway’s archways, bookcase, and hidden coat closets contribute to the charm and character of this home.

Above: The flooring features beautiful 14-inch-wide reclaimed wood floorboards sourced from Manomin Resawn Timbers. The wood is salvaged from 19th-century barns and lends a lived-in feeling.

Above: In the dining room, the 140-year-old antique mantel with a carved dog head atop the fireplace was sourced from Architectural Antiques.

Above: The dual-sided fireplace is shared with the sunroom, a cozy space where the homeowners like to begin their day with a cup of coffee and good conversation. The space is painted in Benjamin Moore’s Knoxville Gray HC-160, which has blue undertones.

Above: For the built-in window bench, there is a 12-inch base with a 6-inch cushion — making it ultra-comfortable and inviting. The typical measurement for a window bench is a 15-inch base with a 3-inch cushion.

What We Love: This 100-year-old home features thoughtful attention to detail throughout, from the material selections to the vintage finds. There are so many memorable details in this home, from the gorgeous kitchen with its green zellige backsplash tile to the dining room with its vintage mantel and the living room with the textural stone accent wall. The sunroom is also a wonderful space, idyllic for the wintertime blues to have a light-filled space to relax and enjoy good conversation.
