Rumor Designs together with Fox Construction has reimagined this gorgeous mountain home nestled in the aspens of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This dwelling had great bones and traditional elements that provided an inspiring canvas for the new design. The goal was to modernize the interior spaces and create a more inviting mood for this home’s new inhabitants โ a lively, young family.
This house was going to be the family’s full-time residence and was occupied throughout the design process. The homeowner’s goals were to maximize living spaces and create more casual areas to spend family time. The original glass sliding doors that partitioned each space were retained in the upgraded home design for their practicality, particularly for the family working from home.
What We Love: This beautiful mountain home is a mix of playful, family-friendly design and sophisticated elements, resulting in stylish and inviting living spaces. The uplifting interior palette of this home is inspired by its surroundings โ a grove of aspen trees. Overall, we love every detail of this home, from the whimsical wallcovering selections to the exquisite light fixtures and the eye-catching paint selection in the kitchen.

Above: The designer replaced the heavy drapery on the floor-to-ceiling windows with elegant sheers to allow natural light to flood the space, creating a more open and inviting aesthetic.
Above: The original traditional fireplace was swapped out for a contemporary wood-burning insert featuring a floor-to-ceiling surround comprised of black hot rolled steel creating a warm, natural patina with a slightly industrial aesthetic โ perfectly complementing the existing flagstone floors. Thoughtful additions include exterior hatches for simple access to stack wooden logs flanking the fireplace.
The designer blended old with new throughout the living spaces. A bright, patterned rug in the living room infuses this space with color and personality.
Above: The flow of the kitchen was enhanced by eliminating excess cabinetry and reimagining the island to be a more spacious practical prep area while offering a larger casual dining area for the family. Wire-brushed white oak cabinets with black glazing on the island provide an organic base for the perimeter cabinets which are painted in Rosemary SW 6187 – Sherwin Williams.

The island lights are Eldridge in Old Bronze from Hudson Valley Lighting. On the island, open shelving at the end provides functional storage for cookbooks. Dimensions: 374 square feet (17 by 22 feet)

All of the decorative lighting throughout this dwelling was modernized for smooth transitions and bold statements.
A mixture of vintage and bright, patterned rugs provide warmth in the large spaces, all while paying homage to the blend of old with new.
Cheerful wallcoverings add color and texture to the interiors, from banana husk to an amusing take on traditional toile. The wallpaper in this powder bath invites you to want to run your fingers across the ridges.
