A Design together with Design 4 Corners have renovated this midcentury home for a family with four boys, located in Solana Beach, a coastal city in San Diego County, California. This midcentury home had such beautiful bones and the project team wanted to capitalize on its architectural details. The beauty of this project is that it sits on a lot of land, tucked away in the hills of North County, creating an oasis for this family.

All the finishes in the home are inspired by the surrounding landscape outside the residence — big beautiful trees and unique rock formations. When designing the entry for this home, the designer ensured that light was abundant — both natural and decorative. A large plant in a decorative planter from Adobe by Jess Vargas, brings life into this space. Complementing this, a beautiful mirror sourced from Croft House adds depth and reflection.

This home was originally designed by one of California’s greatest mid-century architects, Lloyd Ruocco. Preserving the structural elements and highlighting the distinctive architectural details were key objectives during the renovation of this mid-century home. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by natural light flooding in floor-to-ceiling windows, doors, and skylights.

The project team wanted to create a space where the owners could relax from their busy schedules and enjoy each other’s company. This five-bedroom home is complete with a pool and sauna, outdoor kitchen and lounge, guest house, and a pickleball court is a perfect oasis for a busy family.

What We Love: This midcentury home in San Diego has been beautifully rejuvenated to provide a large family with plenty of spaces for gathering and relaxing. Interior spaces were updated to be light and airy with a more connected flow from indoors to outdoors. The whole backyard was completely transformed to offer a large swimming pool that serves as a fabulous focal point for entertaining and lounging the days away.
