This rustic mountain house retreat showcases cozy wintery vibes thanks to the complete transformation by Aspen Leaf Interior, located in Lake Tahoe, California. The homeowners sought to have a family lodge-style getaway with all of the modern amenities to fit their lifestyle needs. Their main objective was to add a garage and increase the living space for their active family.

This remodel project gives the impression that the backbone of the structure is unaltered. The old was combined with the new to create a seamless integration of the dwelling’s existing rustic features and upgraded comforts. Above: The rustic entry creates a warm welcome for this mountain home with reclaimed wood, natural stone, a cozy sheepskin rug, and wood beams.

A 554 square foot garage was added onto the home, this allowed for extra living space above and below. Additionally, the existing master bedroom was cantilevered over the home’s existing footprint. These additions created an extra 1,120 square feet of living space while updating the architectural design and aesthetics to create the home’s rustic nature.

This lakefront property boasts expansive views that can be enjoyed through large windows and outdoor living spaces. A built-in wooden hot tub next to a custom outdoor shower flows with the architectural design.

A heavy pallet of mostly reclaimed woodwork and masonry brings you back in time. The wood flooring is a reclaimed lumber masterpiece, and the hand-hewn beams create that classic feel that the homeowners yearned for.

Instead of using factory-built vanities and furniture, there are numerous custom reclaimed lumber built-ins, and vintage pieces retrofitted to fit the décor flawlessly. Small impactful details include custom cabinet pulls made from railroad spikes and hammered metal switch plates. The electrical was replaced with the classic push-button style.
