Workshop/APD is responsible for the design of this stunning hilltop house nestled into one of the highest points in Armonk, Westchester County, New York. This ground-up residence was created to highlight its magnificent surroundings, featuring sweeping views of Westchester, the Hudson River, and New York City.
Thoughtfully integrated into a lush, landscaped setting complete with a private walking trail, the home merges interiors and exteriors with rooms that seamlessly open to and connect with the outside. Inside, a unified palette of pale wood and neutral and cool blue tones creates a serene family retreat and draws the eye out to the home’s stunning surroundings.

The architects designed this home to change with the seasons. It was sited to capture natural light, leafy shade, cool breezes, and the wondrous views of both country and city. Inside you will find a soft, shimmery neutral color palette that captures the changing of the light throughout the day to create a multi-sensory experience to the delight of the homeowners.
What We Love: Literally carved from the rocky hilltop, this home offers its inhabitants a wonderful indoor-outdoor lifestyle. We can only imagine how wonderful it would be to spend summers here enjoying alfresco dining on the patio next to the swimming pool. The sweeping views of both the countryside and the city from expansive walls of glazing are the icing on the cake for this beautifully designed dwelling.

This hilltop home’s windows were carefully situated for optimal natural lighting, cross-breezes, and sweeping views, unifying indoors and out. All of the windows and doors throughout this home are from LaCantina. This year-round sunroom can be opened to the great outdoors during the warm summer months. The sofa is from Vanguard Furniture, while the swivel chair is by Rene Cazares.

The way this home is integrated into its site is pretty incredible. The project team had to chip away roughly 500 tons of granite. This resulted in the home appearing to cascade down the site, creating bright and airy living spaces that are wide open to the views and an effortless indoor-outdoor connection.
At once modern and familiar, the team employed traditional elements that are common to the area to a modern architectural language. This resulted in a home that is perfectly of its place and time.
