This spectacular modern mountain retreat designed by CLB Architects is nestled at the base of the Teton Mountain Range in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The property sits next to a scenic meadow, near an aspen and conifer forest that cascades down from the summit of Rendezvous Peak.

The residential family compound consists of a series of five limestone-clad pavilions, each with a central purpose. Four of the structures are devoted to living spaces, while one of them is the pool pavilion, which features a pass-through bar and kitchen area. The four main structures are connected via walkways and have a harmonious design scheme with similar materials and decor.

The project, reminiscent of a homesteader’s settlement, was developed with a vision of five connected symmetrical agrarian forms with minimal overhangs—a compound of buildings organized to accommodate an extensive residential program. The primary mass hosts the public spaces, and the peripheral volumes capitalize on privacy for bedrooms and a den.

The three central forms are linked by glassy connectors; they lie parallel to and offset from each other. The remaining two forms in turn help define a series of distinct and different outdoor experiences including the auto court at the entry, a west-facing courtyard that embraces an aspen grove, and a south-facing pool terrace flanked by a detached pool house.

The exteriors are clad simply in stone, with subtle steel detailing. A similarly minimal palette of rift-sawn white oak and white plaster informs the interior spaces. The seeming simplicity of forms and materiality is the result of rigorous alignments and geometries, from the stone coursing on the exterior to the sequenced wood-plank coursing of the interior.

The layout of the multiple structures lends elegance to the flow, while the relationship between spaces fosters a sense of intimacy. The formal proportions, material consistency, and painstaking craftsmanship in Five Shadows were all deliberately considered to enhance privacy, serenity, and a profound connection to the outdoors.

What We Love: This incredible Teton mountain retreat provides its inhabitants with wonderful living spaces for living and entertaining, both indoors and out. We especially love the white oak everywhere on the floors, walls, and ceilings, gives a very clean, simple, relaxing feel to the spaces. The expansive windows throughout this home are absolutely amazing, the way they capture the views of the breathtaking rugged landscape.

Stunning house, but its not finished in the way I would do . The roof should be the pinnacle, energy, heating/cooling all in one… no solar panels, the roof slates, manufactured in a sustainable way of recycled and recyclable materials. Far better than the Tesla roof, Tesla is no match to this one, a German quality, German manufactured in Germany. And even cheaper than regular solar solutions.
