Hacker Architects is responsible for the design of this high desert weekend escape that is connected to land and sky, located in Bend, Oregon. Encompassing 4,200 square feet of living space, this retreat offers a grounded and calm respite from busy lives. The owners requested that their new home connect to the spectacular Central Oregon landscape while maintaining privacy within the home.
Taking full advantage of the high desert landscape, this contemporary home seamlessly blends indoors and out, capturing views of land and sky. Interior materials heighten the connection to the outdoors, with floors, ceilings, and wall planes visually extending from interior to exterior.

Natural cedar siding on the exterior, stained in the warm gray of surrounding native plants and shadows, blends and recedes into the landscape, adding to the calm of this desert retreat.
What We Love: This high desert weekend escape offers its inhabitants an idyllic home surrounded by the beauty of nature. The architects designed this dwelling with varying forms to frame views of the landscape, so that the owners could be connected with nature. The heavy use of Western Red Cedar brings warmth to this contemporary home, which has been stained a warm gray on the exterior facade. Overall, we think this would be a relaxing home to enjoy throughout the seasons.
