Ron Farris Architect in collaboration with Rachel Halvorson Designs has designed this cottage style family home located in Nashville, Tennessee. The goal of this home was to create light-filled living spaces, a maximized floor plan, and a dreamy screened porch.
Despite there being much larger houses surrounding this home, the material selection helps to keep it in character with the neighborhood. This one-and-a-half-story home was designed with simple materials, including a hand-laid stone foundation, wood siding, and a cedar shake roof. Continue below to see the inside of this dreamy home…

The exterior paint color is Simply White OC-117 | Benjamin Moore, while the front porch light fixture is from Bevolo. An oversized door welcomes one inside while also helping to make a small entry foyer feel more spacious.

Above: The designer opted to forgo upper cabinetry and instead installed an 11 by 6-foot steel-framed window. Zinc light fixtures over the island add to the overall beauty of this space.

Above: Just off the kitchen is a “dirty” kitchen where the homeowners can hide dishes when they are entertaining. This space also provides additional storage, keeping countertop clutter at bay. The sliding doors are salvaged, with glass-pane inserts to keep visual connectivity.

Above: In the living room, a light oak-paneled wall conceals all of the electronics. Expansive windowed doors slide open to double the living room, extending it into the large screened porch. The coffee table is a reclaimed Spanish door with iron legs custom-made for this piece.

Above: The owners like to entertain, so the designer integrated a custom bar into an alcove in the living room. Drawers designed to store alcoholic beverages keep clutter at bay.

Above: A porch off the main bedroom provides extra living space. Salvaged shutters open from the screened porch to this heavenly oasis that is complete with a daybed from reading and napping. Bermuda shutters provide privacy from neighbors.

Above: The porch gets enjoyed throughout the year, with fans and heaters mounted in the ceiling, along with a cozy stone fireplace for warmth and ambiance.
