This beautiful family home in Texas celebrates the natural environment

This contemporary family home was designed to embrace its natural surroundings by SHM Architects, nestled on a 1.4-acre property intersected by a creek in Dallas, Texas. An exterior facade of light stucco complimented by standing seam metal roofs helps to meld this L-shaped home into its beautiful landscape.

The architects designed this family home to capture the beauty of the property. Living areas such as the kitchen and family room open on either side through floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, providing views of both the entry court and swimming pool while blurring indoor-outdoor boundaries.

A bridge runs over the property’s creek, connecting the garage and guest quarters with the main living spaces. The bridge structure encompasses the dining room, home bar, and lounge area, boasting beautiful views of the creek through walls of glass.

Above: Making a statement entry into this home, a glass and steel pivot door fabricated by Dallas-based Arte de Arquitectura de Mexico Inc. The foyer includes limestone flooring and a wall clad with white oak. Greeting guests is a console table composed of pecan wood, fabricated by home decor store Mockingbird Made. The artwork is by Galen Cheney. Illuminating from above, a U7 Multi Light Pendant from Arpel Lighting.

Above: The walls throughout the home are painted in Eider White SW 7014 – Sherwin-Williams, providing a backdrop to the colorful works of art and exquisite furnishings. In this bridge section of the home, furnishings include a green velvet sofa by Article, complimented by a trio of BILLY Keramik coffee tables by Cattelan Italia. This space beautifully connects with the outdoors, with a ceiling clad in white oak that extends to the exterior soffit.

What We Love: This Texas family home offers its inhabitants living spaces that are simple and clean without overdoing them. Large windows throughout the home frame views of the surrounding natural environment, promoting a feeling of tranquility.
