Cozy A-Frame cabin in the woods breathes new life in Steamboat Springs

Nestled deep in the woods of ski country, this cozy A-frame cabin was completely reimagined by Gerber Berend Design Build, located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. A New Hampshire couple had been vacationing in this region for over 30 years and wished to share this vacation home with extended family.

When the owners first stumbled upon this home tucked away in the woods, they saw the beauty and full potential this home could bring them. Other architects suggested demolishing and starting fresh, but Gerber Berend shared a vision with the owners to re-create this classic 1970s A-frame. Continue below to see how this vision was brought to life…

The architects saw this dwelling’s structure as its biggest asset. It was rustic, and it felt true to the local vernacular of Steamboat Springs. They also knew that the multiple levels of this a-frame would work perfectly for a multi-generational family.

“We could keep cousins’ nighttime giggling well out of parents’ earshot,” states Gerber Berend. “We could see grandparents’ waking up on a snowy morning to look down over the living space and see their kids and grandkids spread out on the sofas below.”

The A-frame lent itself to that kind of family nostalgia. Yet the house was more than that, and a contemporary, Scandinavian update would keep this place looking fresh into the future for this family. The architects breathed new life into this A-frame, giving the finished result a blend of rustic and contemporary, cozy and cool.

My family and I love this cabin and are looking at a similar build in Northern Wisconsin. I was just curious if there were any layouts or floorplans of this place?
