This home is a beautifully renovated barn originally built in the late 1800’s, steeped in history of the Brecon Beacons — named after the ancient practice of lighting signal fires (beacons) on mountains to warn of attacks by invaders. Living spaces are decorated with captivating Spitfire artifacts that pays homage to WWII (this includes an original Spitfire propeller encased in a handmade oak coffee table!). Comfort awaits visitors, offering relaxing furnishings to enjoy the warmth and romantic ambiance of a traditional wood-burning stove.
What To Do: If you are inspired by this barn house’s unique Spitfire theme, you may wish to explore the Black Mountains. Here you will find numerous iconic WWII sits of interest! Spend summer afternoon relaxing in the garden while enjoying an outdoor barbecue. In the evening, you will be lulled by the heavenly scent of lavender while enjoying beautiful sunsets. Also in the area is Brobury House and Gardens, a tranquil terraced Victorian garden to be enjoyed by romantics and nature lovers. Enjoy a picnic on the riverbank or head to nearby Hay-On-Wye to explore famous old bookshops. Lastly, indulge in a delightful sweet treat — sheep’s milk ice-cream that is locally made in the Golden Valley.
