With the help of Siegfried Interiorismo, a world traveler sets his roots in this beautifully transformed rustic contemporary house located in Pozuelo de Alarcón, a suburb of Madrid, Spain. The designer is a childhood friend and the homeowner contacted her to help with the reform of this dilapidated abode. Her extensive design experience led her to develop a major change to both the structure and interior layout and decoration.
All interior walls that were not necessary were eliminated, giving a feeling of spaciousness and luminosity. The designer created light-filled interiors by adding large windows and creating shared living spaces, such as the living/dining room or the bathroom/dressing room. Another idea to keeping spaces bright and airy was to install large iron and glass or wooden doors that the homeowner designed himself.
Above: The entryway of the home features furnishings inherited and restored by the homeowner. The are rug is from Ikea.
Above: The homeowner wanted a very open layout, especially with the kitchen being central to the home. In the living room, the sofa and the puff are from Ikea. A dual sided fireplace connects the living and dining room.
Above: Before the reform, all of the spaces were very compartmentalized and dark. All of the windows were changed to be very large to help flood the interiors with natural light.
Above: The designer had a problem achieving the goal of light-flooded interiors because the staircase is precisely between the kitchen and the living room. This is why they created enormous doors that have become special pieces of this home. The doors were custom created by the designer.
Above: Focusing on the main idea of opening spaces and interconnecting rooms, the porch was incorporated into the dining room via an expansive window that blurs indoor-outdoor spaces. The carpet is from Ikea and the cushions from Deco & Living.
What We Love: This rustic contemporary house offers an open and spacious interior layout with plenty of natural light. The living spaces are warm and cozy with plenty of charm and character. Unique details can be found throughout, from the custom designed doors to the restored furnishings. We are especially loving the covered outdoor living room, which can be curtained off for privacy or to protect from the elements. This space is perfect for lounging and entertaining friends.

Above: To keep the spaces interconnected, the designer created iron and glass doors with loads of personality. The doors have a rustic-industrial style finish.
Above: The open kitchen is flooded with natural light thanks to large windows. The countertops are made of microcement, complimented by wood cabinetry. The area rug is from Ikea. The wall sconces are from Maisons du Monde.
Above: The kitchen furniture is from Singular Kitchen, and the high table was created by the homeowner. The stools are by Francisco Segarra and the lamp is by Ikea.
Above: The bathroom/dressing room was created by joining three old rooms: a bedroom, a bathroom and a small terrace. The vanity is made of microcement. The lockers and their baskets are from Ikea, as is the jute rug.
Above: In the bedroom, the palette was inspired by the ocean. Hues of blue can be seen punctuated throughout, giving a calm and tranquility to the room. The duvet cover, cushions and lamp are from Kenay Home. The wall is painted in a beautiful blue of Farrow & Ball, creating a maritime atmosphere.
Above: Because of the homeowner’s character, the house had to be both calm and traditional. It also had to have a special place outside — to enjoy reading, taking in fresh air, breezes and sunshine. The porch can be open or closed.
