Venice-based interior design studio Shelby Wood Design completely transformed this Los Angeles, California home into a bright and airy living space. Recently completed this year, the designer gave this project a fresh design approach, breathing new life into the space. The residence looks very ordinary from the exterior facade, but one step inside displays anything but ordinary, more like extraordinary! Clean lines and modern details are mixed with retro-inspired pieces and decor, adding a groovy vibe to the mix. Upon entryway into the home, a stunning feature wall next to a steel and wood staircase takes center stage.

Wooden wall panels, a popular look from the 60s and 70s, infuses texture and warmth into the space. The wood is visually pleasing and makes this open plan living, dining room and kitchen area very inviting. The brightness of the white walls surrounding the wood is nicely offset by this accent piece. The wall panels also adds depth to this open plan space, making it feel more spacious. The addition of hardwood flooring throughout the main living spaces adds to the overall warmth of the home.

What We Love: A modern home infused with retro-inspired furnishings and decor makes for a sleek and inviting pad. Light-filled spaces that flows from one to the next makes this home very livable. Sliding glass panels opening the main living area up to the outdoors helps blur indoor-outdoor boundaries. The small guest house in the back of the property isn’t too shabby either!
