A modern farmhouse whose interiors were designed by Kathleen Walsh Interiors is located on an 86-acre working dairy farm in Massachusetts. Instead of designing a more traditional farmhouse with a wraparound porch, the design team decided to create a structure that seems like it would be original to the property, with the appearance of an old barn.
With weathered cedar plank siding on the exterior facade, there is a rustic aesthetic quality to the home with a contemporary twist. Comprised of 5,000 square feet of living space, expansive windows not only capture the views of rolling acres, but also draws in plenty of natural sunlight. The flooring and wood beams on the ceilings are a mixture of hand-hewn, reclaimed barn wood, including red and white oak, beach, elm, poplar, and hickory.
What We Love: A barn retrofitted for modern living, the interiors are very soothing with an element of rusticity and refined sensibility. A soothing color palette, the warmth from the wood, there is nothing not to love about this home… including the chickens!

Antique hand hewn timbers grace the ceilings throughout this farmhouse, adding an authentic feel with plenty of rustic charm.
The kitchen is the heart of the home, where the family comes together to not only eat but to do homework and enjoy quality conversation time while cooking.
The fireplace wall is comprised of split-face limestone, giving the space a natural, earthy aesthetic.
Located upstairs are two bedrooms and a master bedroom suite as well as a sitting room for the children. Designed to look like an addition to the property is an annex, which includes two guest bedrooms.
