This bright and colorful family home has been designed by Tobi Fairley Interior Design in collaboration with Yeary Lindsey Architects, located in Little Rock, Arkansas. This small cottage was in desperate need of being transformed to meet the needs of a newly a married couple with a combined total of six children. The designer used her signature style of bold color palettes and a tailored design aesthetic. Nestled on a quiet street, this was the perfect home for the family, who just needed a few alterations to make the home feel more spacious, nearly doubling the size. The designer worked with the architect to create an open concept kitchen that adjoins a spacious family room. Additional spaces added to the homes encompasses a new master bedroom suite, powder room, home office and a utility space. On the upper level, an un-used attic space was transformed into additional living area, with dormer windows installed to draw in natural light and to increase square footage. Personal storage was added throughout the interiors wherever possible, further maximizing efficiency for the large family. The designer selected fabrics in the family room that would hide wear and tear and a reversible area rug that can be reversed for when entertaining guests. The bar stools in the kitchen are coated in vinyl to allow for easy cleaning. In the children’s bedrooms, FLOR tiles were selected instead of carpeting since they add a graphic punch and individual tiles can be replaced if they get any damage or staining. Bedding was sourced from places like Pottery Barn Kids. The designers goal was to create a home that would allow privacy for everyone yet at the same time create space for coming together and creating bonds, fitting the bill for a newly blended family.

The kitchen features turquoise cabinetry and a matching backsplash, which helps the kitchen meld into the background of the open plan space. The color helps to coordinate with the rest of the space, wrapping the room and creating a serene neutral instead of jumping out at you. The family has a passion for water, so the kitchen and family room features a monochromatic palette of blues. The color is also very gender neutral, so it would appeal to all family members.

The newly designed master bedroom suite is a quite retreat for the busy homeowners, featuring soaring high ceilings, a serene color palette. A home office situated close by offers a great space to work from home and includes a custom built-in sleeping area for guests.

Storage has been added everywhere, with multi-purpose furniture selections, including beds with pull-out trundles and ottomans that include interior storage.

Each of the children’s rooms were custom tailored to suit their needs and personalities. Such as the bedroom above, the space of a teenaged daughter who wished to have private space for entertaining friends and sleepovers on the sleeper sofa.

This newly built mudroom is positioned at the back entryway to home, featuring locker-style cubbies for each family member.
