Historic home gets bright and airy makeover on a woodsy Seattle property

historic-home-exterior

Ripple Design Studio has beautifully renovated this historic home situated in The Highlands, a gated community situated above the Puget Sound waterfront in Seattle, Washington. For this traditional gem, the densely wooded property offered a gorgeous locale but created a dark and moody interior. The architects focused on bringing more natural light into the home, without compromising the original architectural intent.

In the main living areas, they increased the window space and introduced a series of French doors with transoms. White walls, cabinetry, and trim optimize the airy effect—balanced with cozy furnishings and warm brass accents. Multiple outdoor gathering spaces, including a covered terrace and a new deck, provide a front-row view of Mother Nature.

What We Love: This historic home in Seattle has been completely transformed to offer luminous living spaces that are highly functional and stylish. There are a lot of beautiful details in this home, both indoors and out. We love the outdoor entertaining options, from the alfresco dining area to the backyard firepit and the garden for farm-to-table dining. The interior is equally exquisite, with a crisp white, dual island kitchen that is a chef’s dream and a serene living room that is idyllic for both lounging and entertaining.

Tell Us: What details in the design of this home do you find most appealing? Please share your thoughts in the Comments below, we enjoy reading your feedback!

Note: Be sure to check out a couple of other fascinating home tours that we have showcased here on One Kindesign in the state of Washington: A Northwest contemporary cabin with Japanese influences on Lopez Island and Buck Mountain cabin perched cliffside to soak in views of the San Juan Islands.
