Leff Construction Design/Build is responsible for the complete overhaul of this casual luxury retreat located in the village of Glen Ellen in the heart of Sonoma Valley Wine Country, California. This three-bedroom, two-bathroom family getaway had not been renovated in three decades and the homeowners were nearly ready to tear down and start from scratch. They ultimately decided on a two-phased approach to remodel their home which accommodated their constant flow of out-of-town visitors.
While the project team preserved the natural beauty of the stone porch entryway, the heating system, electrical wiring, and uninvited rodents lodging in the surrounding woods, had to go. Even the rooftop and skylights required an enlightening reconfiguration to improve drainage and maintain the charming interior space. Every approach in design focused on durability, flexibility, and accessibility with character inspired by the local aesthetic guests would love.
Backstory: The homeowners are city dwellers who purchased this property to be used for both family getaways and as a vacation rental. Constructed in the 1980s on a 6.42 acre forested hillside, the house had not been remodelled in 30 years. Due to the deferred maintenance of this dwelling, the owner’s initial thought was to tear down and rebuild. Instead, they opted to do a complete overhaul of the interior and exterior — designed and built in two phases. The finished result is a casual yet luxurious getaway home for gathering with family and to be used as a part-time vacation rental with plenty of luxury amenities.
This home is surrounded by beautiful landscaping and boasts a backyard oasis, featuring a pool and hot tub. A gas fire pit provides the perfect spot for gathering, while a bocce ball and basketball court will provide hours of outdoor enjoyment. There is also an outdoor kitchen and a covered patio for alfresco dining. The front porch offers additional space to enjoy the quintessential California lifestyle.
What We Love: This charming home was completely reimagined to offer a family a fabulous respite in Sonoma Wine Country. From outdoors to indoors, every detail has been carefully considered. Lush landscaping and outdoor amenities to enjoy time spent in the great outdoors with family and friends. On the interior, skylights help to create light and airy living spaces along with French doors that open to blur indoor-outdoor boundaries. Overall, this casual retreat is the perfect blend of comfort and style, perfect for relaxing and entertaining.
