This contemporary lake house was renovated into a family dream home by Steven Dona Architecture together with Allison Lind Interiors, nestled on Lake Tapps, Washington. When it came to the design of this home, the project team took into consideration that this was a family home and it needed to be family-friendly in both the furnishings and material selections.
A combination of stone, velvet, and glam accents makes this home’s design edgy enough for the adults to entertain, yet warm and cozy enough for the couple’s three young kids to play. When it came to the physical structure of the dwelling, the owners opted to keep the home in its same location and just enhance the exterior with the addition of stone. The driveway location was changed to provide an improved entry sequence and to afford more privacy.

Since the home was already sited to maximize views of the lake, the project team enhanced those views by integrating floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors that provide a fabulous indoor-outdoor connection with the outside terraces.

The wall sconces are from Worlds Away, while the ceiling pendant light is from Arteriors Home. The door was custom fabricated, a collaboration between the designer and the general contractor.
What We Love: This lake house in Washington is anything but ordinary. Living spaces were designed to be fun and bold with plenty of creativity so that the home could be aesthetically pleasing for entertaining yet durable for kids. The spaces have a flow of continuity thanks to the material palette and color selections. The result is a renovation that gives the homeowners a personal statement piece that better reflects their lifestyle while further improving their privacy and views of the lake.

The owner’s bedroom location was reconfigured in the home to take advantage of the wondrous views of the lake and highlight a gorgeous tree on the property, all while creating an abundance of privacy from both the street and the water. Grounding this space is a beautiful vintage area rug.
Above: There is plenty of drama in the owner’s bathroom with stripes of black and white tiles in the shower. In front of both vanities, the designer created a trompe l’oeil bath mat effect.
