Reclaimed barn wood and steel clad this stunning Colorado mountain home

Within walking distance to the Gondola for the Steam Boat Springs ski resort, the Six-Shooter Lodge created by Citizen Design is in the perfect location for year-round outdoor entertainment and relaxation. The home sits in the Wild Horse Meadows neighborhood of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and blends contemporary style with mountain living.

The use of exposed structural steel, reclaimed barn wood, blackened metal panels, and board-formed concrete tiles, provides the appropriate blend of durability and functionality. The owners were looking for a retreat and rental property that could be used year-round.

The partially covered outdoor deck provides space for outdoor dining and living as well as a hot tub that looks out to the views of the Yampa Valley. The double-sided fireplace provides a central element that is enjoyed from the living room and outdoor living. A 10′ bi-folding door opens up to the deck for late afternoons and evening entertainment.

The home features radiant flooring throughout, a heated outdoor deck, six bedrooms, and an open living, kitchen, and dining area. The lower floor houses the garage, media room, bedroom, and mechanical spaces.

The top floor contains the remaining bedrooms and a master suite with its own outdoor patio facing the hills and valley beyond.

The entry screen is composed of structural steel that will weather over time. The screen shields the front door and entry stairs while also providing much-needed shade during the warmer summer months.

The concrete tiles by 2Stone were used to emulate board-formed concrete, which was not allowed in the neighborhood design guidelines, providing texture to the home’s composition.

While I love the idea of a modern, uncluttered house, they just seem so cold and stark all the time. I wonder if anyone can be comfortable living in it.

That is one amazing house… my dream house actually. Simply beautiful.
