Step into this gambrel house with beautifully updated interiors in Massachusetts

Oak Hill Architects has completely renovated this stunning gambrel-style house located in Brookline, a town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. Upon discovering this charming 1907 stucco and slate gambrel, the homeowners immediately recognized its inherent potential and distinctive character.

However, they were well aware that substantial renovations and upgrades would be necessary to align with their family’s requirements. The architect embarked on a mission to preserve and enrich the historical and occasionally idiosyncratic essence of the house, while seamlessly incorporating the owner’s personal aesthetic.

Previously, the kitchen was isolated from the natural flow of the first floor and lacked direct access to the backyard. By eliminating an antiquated service stair and introducing a keeping room, the architects not only enhanced circulation but also invited abundant natural light into the space.

With the acquisition of special permits, they ingeniously connected the garage to the main house through the creation of a mudroom entry.

The owner’s bedroom suite underwent a comprehensive reconfiguration and renovation to ensure the utmost comfort and functionality. Additionally, efforts were made to improve accessibility to the third floor, while new systems and finishes were implemented throughout the residence.

The exterior oozes storybook charm, then you enter into a modern collage of disjointed rooms. Other than the small quaint fireside room, It lost the charm for me.
