This mountain modern homestead was designed by The Architectural Studio in collaboration with Morgan Keefe Builders, located in the luxury, private mountain community, Balsam Mountain Preserve. Balsam Mountain Preserve is a private, gated, mountain, golf, and equestrian community in the western North Carolina Mountains.
Created with great attention to detail, this home features unique elements throughout that truly set it apart. Unique construction elements include high archway ceilings with reclaimed beams and the use of expansive floor-to-ceiling windows in just about every room are just a few of the many fabulous design features in this exquisite dwelling.
The home is sited on the property to seamlessly blend in with its natural setting, with the intention of maximizing the views. This sparked the idea to design this home to ramble around the property, where the aesthetics of the home is dictated by a locally sourced material palette.
To help this home blend in with its surroundings, the project team selected reclaimed and locally sourced materials. Several of the main level’s timbers โ structural and accent โ are reclaimed, while the stonework on the exterior facade and the fireplace surrounds are a blend of stones that are indigenous to the region.
What We Love: This modern homestead was originally designed as a part-time retreat for the residents who hail from Texas. However, as they visited their beloved 8,000 square foot, five-bedroom getaway, it became difficult to leave. It was a place they could escape from the hot Texas sun during the summer, but as time went on, this home has become their full-time dream house. From the beautiful surroundings to the unique design details, one can see why it would be hard to leave!

Note: Check out a couple of other amazing home tours that we have showcased here on One Kindesign from the state of North Carolina: Mountain modern sanctuary boasts sweeping views of Blue Ridge Mountains and Mountain modern lake house nested in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Reclaimed brick can also be found throughout the interior of this home, lending an industrial feel to the otherwise rustic details, such as the bark and cedar siding, and distressed wood floors.
The owners wanted their home to be open to the views, so the architects integrated three large sets of bi-folding doors into the abode. This enables the great room and a passageway to seamlessly connect to a covered deck with a hot tub.
