A romantic luxury apartment overlooks the rugged Amalfi Coast in Italy

contemporary-apartment-entry

Ernesto Fusco Interior Designer has completely remodeled this luxury apartment inspired by the colors and scents of the beautiful Amalfi Coast, Italy. Here, almost suspended between the sea and the mountains, this contemporary apartment with a terrace overlooks the splendid sea — nestled in Cetara, an ancient fishing village. Inside, you will find a tribute to the beauty of hand-painted ceramics.

Here is a description of this project submitted to us by the designer: “Completely overturning the layout, the space has been redesigned with the idea of enhancing the view on the outside as much as possible. A large and open living area opens to the sea. Rethinking the spaces in a contemporary way, but with a look at the magical and romantic spirit of the place.

Evoked by the Vietri ceramics, one of the most important elements of the Amalfi tradition. But by subverting rules and tradition, a ceramic ceiling was created, a new unexpected glimpse, something to be admired from a different point of view.

NOTE:

Compared to the original layout, the new one has eliminated most of the visible barriers. Entering the apartment, you have a complete view of the entire space from the entrance. This need to create a clean space also continues for many of the custom-made furnishings, which become one with the walls.

As well as for the door that separates the living area from the sleeping area, which becomes a vertical cut from the floor to the ceiling. From the point of view of the systems, a Daikin ducted air conditioning system was created. In addition, a state-of-the-art home automation electrical system was created for the automation of lights, audio, video, and climate.

For technical lighting, Viabizzuno’s m6 and m4 recessed systems were chosen, all with LED technology.

ENTRANCE:

You enter this luxury apartment through a filter, an ancient portal in walnut and glass (recovered from the renovation). On the left, we find artwork by Paolo Sandulli in terracotta and sea sponge.

While always on the left, the white resin stairs (Warm Collection by Kerakoll), blend with the walls to appear as a single sculptural element. The entrance develops with a double row of storage cabinets with full-height doors (designed by the studio) to create a visual cone that opens into the living room and the sea.

LIVING ROOM:

The living area overlooking the sea is dominated by a “ceramic sky”, created by selecting some of the most beautiful “Hand-made Vietri tiles” by Solimene. The TV wall with the contemporary fireplace divides the two dining and living rooms in an imaginary way.

The square steel and mirror coffee tables serving the sofa are the Elios models by Maxalto, while the pair of round coffee tables in black metal is the Fat Fat ones of B&B Italia.

Behind the sofa, the wooden cupboard made by Metro Cubo Industries, also designed by the studio, creates a separation effect between the living room and the passage to the sleeping area (on the cupboard a turquoise Solimene ceramic hedgehog).

On the wall, work from the collection “sediments 2015” by Angelo Accardi. The “Arco” lamp by Flos (designed by Castiglioni) illuminates the dining area. The white linen chairs/armchairs are part of the Ghost collection by Gervasoni. The sofa also in white linen is the Brick also by Gervasoni.

DINING ROOM:

In the dining area, we find the large tobacco oak table, from rigorous lines that are part of a series of three pieces created by Metro Cubo Industries based on a design by Ernesto Fusco studio.

The suspended sideboard that fixes and accentuates the centrality of the dining space, created by Metro Cubo Industries based on a design by the studio.

On the living room wall “sand eggs on spoons that protrude from the wall” are a particular installation by the sculptor Peppe Perone. Chosen for their particular sculptural shape, soft and timeless, the Milano radiators by Tubes hide their very function becoming small works of art.

MATERIALS:

Natural brushed oak wood flooring extends throughout the house, softening the rigor of the spaces. The whiteness and rigor of the surfaces, the freshness, and elegance of the white linen fabrics, the warmth of the wood, and the colors of the ceramics that delicately appear in the rooms, make this space magical and exclusive.

What We Love: This romantic apartment is all about the luxury details and jaw-dropping views of the rugged coastline. We are loving the unique artwork and colorful tile details found on the ceiling and the wall in the kitchen. Herringbone wood flooring infuses warmth throughout this home. We are especially admiring the outdoor terrace, what a wonderful spot to enjoy seaside views while lounging and dining with family and friends.

KITCHEN:

The kitchen has been designed in this small, narrow and long space, almost like a telescope looking at the sea … Even if made in a separate room from the living area, no passage filter has been inserted, this to keep the view free when sitting in the dining area.

BATHROOM LIVING:

Hidden by a wing, the service bathroom was made entirely of white resin, White which extends to the sanitary, to the Corian washbasin designed by the studio, and to the wall-mounted radiators. A long shelf in solid oak acts as a bench and as a support surface for the washbasin.

Here the colors of the sea are taken from the collection of blue ceramics, also by Solimene.

MASTER BEDROOM:

A simple and essential room, where white draperies frame the two wonderful views, on one side the sea and on the other the dome of colored “tiles” of the church of San Pietro.

MASTER BATHROOM:

Even here, the walls have been coated in white resin which contrasts the composition of the washbasin in Piasentina stone and Canaletto walnut.

The shower obtained from the former laundry area was designed as a mini spa. Starting from the door that incorporates the Turkish bath system, up to the multifunctional shower head with nebulized water, waterfall, and chromotherapy.

TERRACE:
Projected towards the sea and completely covered in teak like the deck of a ship, the terrace was designed as a second living area but without walls. To emphasize this aspect of an “open-air house”, the various areas with different functions have been arranged on different levels, as if to create distinct environments.

A kitchen area with a steelwork island made by Röshults. A dining area with the large In-Out teak table by Gervasoni and the Ciak armchairs by Emu.

A relaxation and conversation area where the large white fabric sofas from the Ghost-Out collection by Gervasoni have been chosen. A solarium area with teak and fabric sunbeds, also from the Gervasoni Ghost-Out collection. And finally, on the highest volume, a relaxation area with a small whirlpool tub.

For the lighting, the choice fell on the Plis by Vibia which, with their large pleated effect lampshades, are reminiscent of classic living room lamps. Also by Vibia are the luminous poufs which, thanks to their particular structure, give pleasant light effects.
