Tour a colonial revival farmhouse with traditional Southern charm

Southern sensibilities inspired the design of this colonial revival farmhouse by Tim Barber Architects, located in Atherton, a town in San Mateo County, California. Its symmetric, gabled facade features shuttered windows and columns in a formal, traditional rhythm while the plan of the house is definitely 21st-century.

Each room is lined with windows to maximize natural illumination throughout the home, and a long front porch provides ample space to enjoy the sunrise and sunsets over the nearby Redwoods. The porch roof protrudes enough to provide shade during the day, while a row of lantern pendants offers plenty of light for outdoor entertaining at night.

I can see what they were attempting, but there are a few things that are off and calling it a “Colonial Revival” is just incorrect. That was an actual style in the last century, and should definitely not be used on a new house. The porch is not deep enough and throws the whole entrance façade off. Using “4 over 4s” on the second floor is a pleasing idea, but there are not enough other details to hold the potential scheme together. the rafter tails would never have been used on such a “Colonial” house, in the South, or anywhere.… Read more »

Do you happen to know the color of the roof shingles? Or type? I love the color with the white siding!

Dear Team!

Gorgeous House! I like drawing and doing reno-floorplans for fun. Is there a possibility that you share the floorplans from this house?
