scandinavian-style-home-entry

This Scandinavian mid-century retreat was designed by Magdalena Keck Interior Design, located in the Catskills Mountains in southeastern New York State. Nestled between woods and meadows, the property includes a 3,000 square foot, three-bedroom main house, a guest house, work shed and expansive outdoor space that includes a pool and fire pit area.

Providing a serene shelter in the woods, this home is a harmony of American craftsmanship, Japanese philosophy and interest is Scandinavian mid-century aesthetic. It evokes its setting and strongly draws on the heritage of the owners.

The design is driven by the abundant beauty and balance found in nature, especially given the setting and purpose of this dwelling, in addition for a passion to dive deep, take apart and put back together the ethos of the inhabitants.

What We Love: This Scandinavian mid-century retreat offers a haven of tranquility for its inhabitants, surrounded by an abundance of nature. A heavily wooded setting provides privacy while also offering fabulous views through this home’s large windows. We are especially loving the guest house option, enabling family and friends to also enjoy this fantastic location while luxuriating in beautiful architecture.

Guest House & Workshop

A guest house was designed to accompany the family home. The ranch-style, two-bedroom dwelling continues the concept, where elements of American craftsmanship, Scandinavian mid-century aesthetic, and a Japanese sensibility are explored and composed together.

Set on a hill, between woods and meadows, it evokes the setting and draws on the Japanese and American heritage of the clients. The intent was for the guests to experience being close to nature outside as well as inside. The palette is edited down; its textural richness comes from the woods, metals, and textiles.

Two bedrooms symmetrically flank the central placed living area and echo each other with white oak platform beds and earthy wool kilim rugs. Night lamps and wall hangings lend individuality. Both rooms open up to a porch, which runs the length of the guest house.
