All-American style cottage with charming details in South Carolina

This All-American style cottage located in Greenville, South Carolina was built by The Cottage Group, a Dillard-Jones Builders company. This home showcases an abundance of outdoor living spaces, including a wrap-around porch at the front and a screened-in porch along with a sitting porch as the back of the cottage. Encompassing 2,400 square feet of living space, this three-bedroom cottage plan includes a master bedroom suite on the main level. On the upper level, there are two bedrooms separated by a loft that overlooks the level level living space.

The exterior of this cottage is clad with Hardie siding, set on a brick foundation. Roughly 97% of the products that were used in the building process are made in the United States! SH Designs is responsible for the interiors of this home showcase home. Most of the interior finishes are American-made products, including Wellborn Cabinets, which was project sponsor. This home was featured in Southern Living and This Old House, also sponsors of this project that ” hopes to inspire a Made In The USA movement among homeowners and home builders.”

Inviting living spaces are beautifully decorated with comfortable furnishings punctuated by complimentary accessories. Above: The coffee table in the living room is custom, fabricated out of reclaimed oak and iron by The Heirloom Companies. A modular Isokern gas fireplace was designed with real brick.  This pumice stone fireplace is environmentally-friendly. The builders fabricated the custom mantel.

Above: In the kitchen, all appliances are by Dacor (American-made and family owned). This includes a range top stove, cabinet deck refrigerator with French doors, and a wall oven. Cabinets are custom designed by Wellborn Cabinet of Ashland, Alabama. Paint color is glacier white with a pewter finish. Granite countertops are from Stone Mountain, Georgia and installed by Carolina Foothills Studio of Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Above: The MIRA Series Windows by Ply-Gem are used throughout this All-American style cottage. These windows provide the warmth and beauty of a wood window and the durability and weather resistance of aluminum. All window moldings are locally made, with several designed and hand-cut by the builders.

Above: Countertops in the study bathroom are granite, sourced from Stone Mountain, GA and installed by Carolina Foothills Studio of Travelers Rest, SC. All other bathroom countertops are Corian.

Hand-scraped hardwood flooring by Anderson is used throughout the interiors. Old Hickory finished hardwoods, tile and carpeting on the upper level – all Made In USA – were installed by Greer Flooring Center.

Above: The iron floor registers were custom fabricated for this home. The Heirloom Companies finely crafted each piece using state-of-the-art CNC plasma technology.

Above: A custom fabricated staircase by The Heirloom Companies of Campobello, South Carolina features a mix of woods. The railing is assembled with red oak box newels and handrail, while poplar wood panels are cut on a CNC router for the balusters. All the materials used for the staircase were purchased in the USA.

Above: In the bathroom, plumbing fixtures and accessories includes a mix of Kohler, Delta and Newport Brass. Custom cabinets are fabricated by Wellborn Cabinet of Ashland, Alabama. The color is glacier white with a pewter finish.

Above: This home features a Control 4 home automation system, installed by AV Innovations of Greenville, South Carolina. This includes: lighting control, music control in master bedroom, kitchen, living room and screened porch. The upper level media room also includes some impressive features, including a 60-inch Samsung LED television, Integra receivers and Blu-Ray player.

Above: The exterior facade features LP SmartSide lap, trim and soffit. LP SoftSide is one of the fastest growing brands of exterior siding in America. Valspar paint (American-made) colors are: Shutters, 3011-9, Copper Abode Brown; Porch Ceiling, 5002-5B, Dreamy Clouds; and 7006-1, Homestead Resort Jefferson White. Roof shingles are GAF Sienna Designer Shingles and the color is Chateau Gray.

Above: Board-and-batten style shutters and Bahamas-style shutters are sourced from Southern Traditions Window Fashions, located in Greenville, South Carolina. All of the shutters were custom fabricated in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. Adding an authentic touch to the shutters are hand-crafted hinges and holdbacks, designed by The Heirloom Companies, located in Campobello, South Carolina.

Above: Icynene spray foam insulation was used throughout this cottage. This product was installed by Galloway-Bell Inc. of Easley, South Carolina. Icynene both insulates and air-seals the building envelope to offer a healthier, quieter and more energy-efficient home. This product is seen in the home’s storage area, located at the back of the upstairs media room.
