This vertical home is a contemporary renovation project by Jennifer Tulley Architects, located in Russian Hill, a neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Russian Hill is a quint community known for the famously crooked Lombard Street, a major tourist destination. This home was constructed in 1957, in need of a major overhaul. Clean, white, modern living spaces and a desire for marble and light wood elements — the express wishes of the homeowner.
The architects were responsible for transforming this vertical home into a sleek yet family friendly oasis for the couple and their two school-aged boys. The verticality of the dwelling is an important design element, informing the experience of the home. A procession is created with the curved stairs linking an early intimate garden view at the foyer to the third floor living spaces, where the openness of the plan and the views are revealed, with Bay Bridge views at the front and the towering Redwood garden at the back.
What We Love: This fabulous home has given a family of four a bright and airy new layout that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional. Although the interiors exude clean lines, the wooden flooring in the open concept living, dining, kitchen area helps to add warmth. Overall, the design offers a luxe look yet is inviting and family friendly.
