This stunning seaside home has undergone a complete interior overhaul by Urban Grace Interiors, located on the beautiful white sand beaches of WaterSound Beach, Florida. This home was originally constructed in 2004 by the St. Joe Company as the show house for Southern Accents magazine. The design of the house drew its inspiration from the grand waterfront homes of the shingle style, while retaining the charm of more modest seaside cottages. The widow’s walk, upper balconies, bay windows and gables are a nod to the romanticism of historic seaside resorts of New England, while deep wraparound porches, sheltering overhangs and breezeways are a direct response to the Gulf Coast climate.
When this beach house was sold in 2013 to a new homeowner, the exterior was still in mint condition, yet the interior was in need of some cosmetic touch-ups. The design team was contracted to restore this home to its former glory. Instead of creating a show home with eye-catching details and the latest design trends, the designers opted instead to focus on a subtle and sophisticated aesthetic that was more timeless.
The goal was for the home to retain its beach house aesthetic, with a welcoming connection with its setting. With a variety of outdoor living spaces, this home has a fantastic indoor-outdoor relationship. Deep front porches encourages spending time outdoor year-round, while a second-story veranda soaks in views of the dunes and the coast. A generous windows walk captures the magnificent sunsets.
The selection of furnishings and fabrics creates an inviting connection between indoors and out, featuring a soft palette of clear, cool colors inspired by the sand and sea.
Above: The kitchen features clear-glass doors in the upper cabinets and a Calcutta marble mosaic tile backsplash in a classic plaid pattern. The island is painted gray, while the perimeter cabinets were coated with a fresh shade of white.
What We Love: This home fuses New England shingle style tradition with Southern charm and whimsy. The design takes full advantage of the dramatic Gulf views with an accessible rooftop widow’s walk. Interior living spaces are arranged with rooms flowing from one to another, while color and subtle details helps to define spaces and create a sense of intimacy. The rooms are not grand in scale, instead the glamor of this seaside home is showcased in the fine attention to detail, muted palette and relaxed furnishings that are luxurious yet inviting… Readers, what details in this home caught your eye and why?
