Fairytale cottage retreat surrounded by the Spanish countryside

This fairytale cottage retreat is nestled in a region of incredible beauty, at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos mountain range, in La Vera, a region of Extremadura, Western Spain. The home is surrounded by a delightful field garden with roses, aromatic plants, oaks and chestnut trees. Landscaper Jesús Moraime is responsible for the verdant beauty on this property that delights all five senses. After the home was originally built, an addition was added to the existing structure, which today is the living room.

The renovation project used traditional construction methods, the work of Jesús Moraime in collaboration witharchitect Alicia López-Izquierdo. The former is a renowned landscaper with twenty years of experience and is also an author. The garden was designed to embrace the house, to which it is inseparably united. Jesús has a vast interest in rural countryside, which prompted an exiting and attractive business experience: to build a series of country house to rent in the Spanish enclave of Extremadura.

This house is the very first in the series, called San Julián. It was drawn up as a garden pavilion, in perfect harmony with its surroundings, evocative and full of charm. The main living area features exposed chestnut beams on the ceiling and walls. The other walls and ceilings of the house are of black plaster. The flooring consists of traditional clay, commissioned from a local pottery.

Rental Rates: San Julián is a lovely retreat that sleeps up to five guests, for approximately $218 /night, from here.

The decoration has been taken care of to the maximum to transmit evocative sensation, inspired by an aristocratic rustic with an old flavor. The garden, divided into sectors, is a luxury for the senses. The south area of this property features a sumptuous swimming pool. Instead of grass—which does not do when in a hot, dry climate—the soil has been covered with gravel of dolomite marble from Montesclaros. In the northern part of the property which is more shaded, there is a quiet sitting area next to a tranquil fountain.

What We Love: This fairytale cottage retreat is surrounded by stunning gardens and charming interiors that are inviting and comfortable. The living spaces feature beautiful furnishings and materials of velvet, linen, silks, furs and embroidered curtains that creates a warm atmosphere in each room. This would make a lovely holiday rental to share with your friends or family to enjoy some rest and relaxation.

Readers, what do you think, would you stay in this holiday vacation retreat? Let us know in the comments below, we love reading your feedback!

Above: There was no concrete decorative style used in the interior, but there is a marked taste for furniture and antique objects: Italian, French and Spanish pieces from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

The complex, including a brand new building that has been built with weddings etc. in mind was 99% finished then, and was opening for the first registered gueets in September of that year.It is… Read more »
