Renovation unveils a mid-century modern jewel in Seattle

This striking mid-century modern residence has been completely transformed by Lane Williams Architects, located in the Sand Point Country Club community of Seattle, Washington. Originally constructed in the 1950’s, the homeowners were looking to capture the views of the surrounding mountains and lake. To take advantage of these views, the architects created a second story addition, along with re-configuring the floorplan layout.

Basement walls and three fireplaces were salvaged, along with the structure of the main level. The second story addition encompasses a brand new master bedroom suite and a professional home office for him. On the main level, a small office was designed for her, close to the three children’s bedrooms. The total living space offers 4,300 square feet, which includes five bedroom and three-and-a-half bathrooms.

The material palette consists of original Roman brick, fiber-cement planks, bamboo composite decking, a PVC roof and aluminum windows and doors.

Above: The focal point of this dwelling is the open layout living, dining, family, kitchen and terrace area. The living room can be delineated from the rest of the space via an expansive rolling door. In the great room, sliding, pocketing doors disappear into walls. This creates a 28 foot wide opening to a private, intimately scaled courtyard with the original fireplace/barbeque and a translucent roof, encouraging outdoor living.
