An industrial style apartment in Barcelona, Spain was renovated for a young client who dreamed of living in a space that feels home-made, contracting interiors studio Drom Living for the task. The client asked for help right from the beginning, starting with the search of the apartment and with the purchase. Encompassing just 688 square feet (64 square meters) with a 150 square feet (14 square meters) terrace, although dilapidated, the home was a diamond in the rough, positioned ideally in the hear of the Poblenou district of Barcelona.

The challenge for this project was to carry out a comprehensive reform of space with innovative design features while trying to keep the industrial essence of the space. The designers had to change the entire distribution, increasing natural light and intervene in the structural parts that were not up to par. The project was inspired by the strong character of New York loft living, vital and full of personality. All unnecessary partitions were eliminated, while a new access point was created for the terrace. This was essential to achieving a bright and spacious area that encompasses an open concept living and dining room plus a kitchen.

The master bedroom, was re-positioned where the old kitchen used to be, and an en-suite bathroom was created, which used to only be accessible from the outside. Both the lounge and the two bedrooms were recovered, with the original brick exposed as well as wood ceilings beams, injecting warmth. As for furnishings, there are replicas except some pieces of original designs, all the furniture was custom designed for the space.

What We Love: The home-made qualities of this Barcelona loft is stunning, from the custom designed furnishings to the preserved elements of exposed brick and wood beams. For how small the some is, the designers really made use of all available space… and love the small green house that divides the kitchen from the bedroom, bringing nature into an urban pad! What are your thoughts, are you loving this industrial style loft?

A dominant range of dark tones highlights the imposing glazed steel structure where several plants are located, which acts as a room divider, a large greenhouse that brings freshness to the space. Lighting was studied carefully for every corner, playing a key role. The designers combined indirect lighting, LEDs, industrial-style lights on the ceiling and some decorative lamps.

The ground was leveled and covered with a continuous concrete that is interrupted only by the quiet mosaic of black and white tones of the kitchen.

C’est super beau ! Tout ce que j’aime : de vieilles briques, des poutres en bois, du noir , de la verdure…dommage que l’on ne voit pas le patio

I’ve always wanted a bedroom that has a toilet as its focal point.
