This casualย beach styleย summer getawayย residence was designed for a familyย by Elizabeth Cooper Interior Design, locatedย in the beautiful village ofย Sag Harbor, New York. The clapboard cottage just need a facelift, already having a beautiful aesthetic and great sightlines. The charming features were preserved in the home, such as the wide wood plank flooring and wood beamed ceilings. The designer added a fresh coat of paint to the kitchen cabinetry andย bleached the original pine floors that were in a pumpkin hue. Classic nautical elements were incorporated into the design scheme, such as locally sourced antiques, cottonย dhurries, area rugs loomed with natural fibers and shiplap walls painted crisp white. The homeowners wanted to honor the history of the area, which was onceย a fisherman’s village, so they devised the concept of a sea captain’s home, incorporating it into the front room. This space encompasses a library/sitting area, housing a wall of of floor-to-ceiling built-in bookcases filled with scholarly books referencing whaling and boating. A ship’s lantern hangs from the ceiling, sourced from Nova Scotia, another area known for quaint fishing villages. Comfort and simplicity were at the forefront of the re-design, the home needed to be a welcoming respite for family vacations. The homeowners love a classic blue and white striping and casual fabrics, which were infused throughout the interiors. The renovation was a creative collaboration between homeowners and designer, a rewarding project since prior to this the family had spent a lot of time living in rentals with basic furnishings. A fresh and renewed property where the homeowner’s haveย put down roots with their two young children.
