The homeowners were drawn to the log construction, yet wanted something more modern. They wanted the new design to be bright, open, and have better access to the outdoors.
The home was located on a steep hillside leaving the existing wrap-around deck as the only means of outdoor gathering space. It also created a cave-like feeling in the basement.
With the deck removed, the basement became a luminous activity center, including a home bar, refrigerated wine wall, and assortment of game tables to provide a place for large groups and gatherings.
In order to accommodate the owner’s children and grandchildren, rooms were re-arranged and imagined into suites, with their own bathrooms and living rooms that could double as sleeping areas for grandchildren.
The roof of the garage was also removed during the renovation and reconstructed to host additional sleeping and social space for grandchildren that included eight bunk beds, a kitchen, and a full bathroom.
From the original log exterior to the updated and modernized interior, this remodel serves as a reminder of why log homes are so popular — they provide rustic charm and a wonderful connection to the outdoors.
