The design of this residence makes an expansive 6,205 square-foot house in a historically important location endearing through the use of scale shifts.

Windows, columns, shingle coursing, weathervane, trim details, and more are all robust—large in size, but not necessarily large in relation to the overall.

The off-center front entry tower is counterbalanced by a second-floor window and rooftop dormer that sit, non-classically, above the solid mass of the column between the two bays to its right.

Inside the main house, is a combination of open-plan flow and traditionally enclosed rooms. The high first-floor ceilings allow for transom windows to further enhance the brightly sunlit spaces.

The family features a floor-to-ceiling cut-slate fireplace with a horizontal ashlar pattern, providing a beautiful focal point to this space.

In the playroom, arch-topped windows bring in an abundance of natural light. The ceiling is clad in reclaimed oak barn siding.
