A camp-like retreat on a serene lakeside setting in New Hampshire

Eagle Pond Studio together with Old Hampshire Designs has designed this high-elevation, four-season retreat that is nestled on an isolated pond in New Hampshire.

The owners desired a house that would have a camp-like feel from the pond.

During the exploration of the home’s massing, a tall central gable emerged, flanked by low roof lines on either side. Expansive glass sliding doors seamlessly connect the house to the waterfront.

To optimize space efficiency, a single area was designated to house the mudroom, pantry, and laundry, conveniently positioned adjacent to the entry area and just behind the kitchen.

This space also provides access to the staircase leading to the second floor. Taking advantage of the space under the stair, an additional kitchen area was created, serving as a dedicated coffee area.

Due to the presence of a ledge, a basement was not feasible, but the crawl space beneath the screened porch serves as storage for small boats.

Emphasizing long-term durability and minimal upkeep, the project prioritized the use of resilient materials and low-maintenance systems.

The interior features locally sourced Eastern White Pine walls, complemented by Ash floors and custom cabinets crafted by local artisans.
