This impressive modern cabin offers peaceful views over Pelican Lake

modern-lake-house-exterior

Peterssen Keller Architecture, together with Nada Bibi Interior Design, has created this spectacular modern cabin with sweeping views over Pelican Lake, a lake located in northwestern Otter Tail County, Minnesota. Flanked by traditional cabins, this striking lake house brings architectural diversity to this lakeshore community. The structure features a standing seam metal and flat top roof with a rock ballast.

Throughout the year, the floor-to-ceiling windows capture the light and continually changing colors of the water. Come winter, when the lake is covered with ice and snow, the dark siding creates a dramatic punctuation mark in the pristine white landscape.

The painted black cedar lap siding highlights the clean straight lines of the structure and integrates seamlessly with the walls of glass.

Love it but as an Alaskan, flat roofs in snowy areas like home and Minnesota are a big NoNo I thought. Unless they are paying someone to shovel that roof several times a winter. I’m sure todays building styles are much more stable though…

Modern, efficient, clean lines, but at the same time warm. Not an easy thing to do.
