This spectacular modern mountain home was designed by Mosaic Architects & Interiors, located in Boulder, a city at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, in northern Colorado. Below is a wonderful project description we received from the architects:
“We knew this site was special when upon our first visit with the owners, we noticed the naturally occurring rose quartz among the trees and boulders. This captivating home grows out of the steep mountain landscape, elegantly adapting to the changing levels. The main level living area opens through cascading doors onto a south-facing hillside terrace, boasting a luxurious plunge pool and spa.”

The views of the mountains captivate you from the inside and outside. The 16’ deep upper deck cantilever adds drama to the massing while creating shade and shelter for the patio below. Solar panels hide just above the fascia. The garage is discreetly tucked below the house behind a stone wall. This house is heated and cooled by high-efficiency equipment, whose energy is offset by solar electric and solar thermal panels.
This includes the energy required for heating the pool and spa. An energy recovery ventilation system provides fresh air. The exterior envelope was designed with extra insulation and low U-value windows. This reduces energy consumption and provides additional comfort to the occupants. Windows were strategically placed to bring in the winter sun while being shaded in the summer.
All plumbing fixtures are low water use and the landscaping includes xeriscape plantings, native to the Rockies. All the lighting is Low energy use LEDs. Renewable and sustainably sourced no-VOC materials are incorporated throughout the interior. Surfaces are durable and easy to clean.
The large windows on the entry terrace reveal a peek of the unique steel staircase which winds around the wood-clad elevator shaft. Light floods the stair and the elevator becomes a beacon to arriving guests, glowing from the integrated handrail LED lighting. The see-through fireplace warms both the entry and the seating area at the living room.
Natural cream-colored limestone and stained hemlock soffits travel from outside to inside, setting up the warm and comforting interior palette. These warm tones are offset by the gallery’s white walls, cool gray floors, and dramatic matte black cabinets. Toes are kept cozy by the radiant floors.
Get a dreamy night’s sleep in the master bedroom as it floats in a sea of evergreens and wakes to the sun on the distant mountain peaks. Surely a wonderful way to live in the mountains, and as the homeowner states, “My home is a luxurious escape into nature, where I feel a sense of Zen.”
