See this insanely beautiful New York country home that overlooks a stream

Crisp Architects is responsible for the design of this stunning country home that is nestled along a meandering stream in Northern Dutchess County, New York. Set on sprawling farmland, the design of this home was all about the views of a beautiful trout stream that wraps around the residence.

The architects turned the potential liability of a steep hill behind the home into a feature with an exposed rock face and a private dining and barbecue space. With a lot of encouragement from the outdoorsman homeowner, the project team nestled this great escape into the landscape, providing an extraordinary connection to nature and the land.

This project took nearly five years to complete and encompassed over 10 varying scaled projects from site bridges to a large recreation barn, pool and pool house, a Carriage House, and the main farmhouse. Built new as a live-in apartment to host extended family, the Carriage house features a 6-car garage, residential elevator, hardwood floors, and extensive custom millwork.

The carriage house was positioned near a magnificent new farmhouse. Built at the foot of a steep cliff and looking out on a bustling stream, this gorgeous residence features tri-mix oak flooring, a custom Italian-made kitchen, huge fireplaces, wood paneling, and a custom staircase built by Structure Works. This newly constructed estate is the epitome of country living.

What We Love: This New York country home provides its inhabitants with a wonderful respite for enjoying the great outdoors whether indoors or out. Positioned to overlook a beautiful stream, the architects did a fabulous job of adding an abundance of windows to soak in the breathtaking views. Overall, we are loving the beauty of this home, from the natural surroundings to the warm and comfortable living spaces to enjoy with family and friends.

Hats off to Crisp this is (in my opinion) the most perfectly designed “home” I’ve seen for some time. It has the feel of a time long gone, elements of old world with the conveniences of today. It’s so large but everything is scaled to human comfort. Perfect.

I agree, as if this house has existed for 100 years. An inspiring homage to true American residential architecture. Beautiful!!
