Walz Architecture in collaboration with Skout has renovated this midcentury modern house with a 1970s vibe, located at the end of a cul-de-sac in Newport Beach, California. This single-story house has a central entry point with two wings on either side and a fantastic indoor-outdoor vibe.
The property was very idyllic with a grassy park next door and wonderful views that were maximized with the remodel. The original home had a kitchen that was closed off to the exterior and the rest of the living spaces, where the goal was to create an open and airy vibe throughout. The floor plan was reconfigured where all of the main living spaces were grouped together on one wing and the bedroom spaces on the other.

A space that was originally used as a bedroom was converted into a playroom, while another space was used to create a compact guest bedroom. The exterior entry was enlarged and refaced with painted black brick. This gave a central focus to the entry and an attractive curb appeal. A large front door opens into the foyer where soaring ceilings set a modern and inviting tone.
What We Love: This renovated Newport Beach house offers a playful vibe throughout its living spaces. Overall, we are loving the aesthetics of this home’s renovation, from the fireplace wall in the living area to the creative touches that can be found in both the public and private areas.
