this is a nice design for what it is. not sure i would describe it as “moody modern”, as it appears to be trying to implement somewhat (modern) farmhouse concepts. appears to be reasonably well proportioned from the photographs. it looks like they were determined to implement the trendy, “living room with a kitchen” concept, because they recessed the kitchen in its own alcove but didn’t partition it from the living room. i think pools in northern climates is a questionable proposition. i get that they look good in the architectural blogs, but illinois is not florida where you can… Read more »

“Living room with a kitchen” concept? Our home was built in 1998. Open concept; kitchen and living beautifully combined. For nearly 30 years we have raised two children, hosted countless dinner gatherings and celebrations, and fellowshipped with family and friends without the boundaries of walls separating us. Keep your endless partitions. This “trend” is here to stay and will always work for those who function best with it.

when i look at a living room with a kitchen concept, i wonder to myself: who thought that it was a good idea to make your house look like a one-bedroom apartment? a kitchen is a *work* area; a living room is a *leisure* area. the fact that this house has a scullery kitchen, separate from the “show” portion of the kitchen is a (somewhat wasteful) indication of a realization of how impractical this concept really is. the problem is that there are people, who don’t live in houses half this size, who see this stuff and actually think that… Read more »
