Idyllic waterfront refuge offers serene views over coastal Maine

contemporary-home-exterior

This striking waterfront refuge was designed by Elliott + Elliott Architecture, located in Brooklin, a town in Hancock County, Maine. Mediating the edges of diverse environmental conditions: sea, meadow, and forest, this contemporary dwelling was divided into three distinct volumes designed to engage the site both visually and phenomenally.

The shed-roofed masses are arranged for interaction with family and friends or seeking refuge as needed. While each of the structures is oriented to the water, the shifting of the masses allows each to capture unique views of the site as well as other parts of the home. This has the effect of creating micro-climates that not only offer a view but shade, sun, or wind as well.

Project Team: Architect: Elliott + Elliott Architecture | General Contractor: Jon D. Woodward & Sons | Structural Engineer: Becker Structural | Lighting Design: Peter Knuppel | Custom Cabinets: Owen Gray & Son | Landscape Design: Burdick & Associates

The apertures of the house follow this site/privacy dictation with the water-facing facades more transparent and permeable, capturing both light and coastal breezes, while the remaining elevations have more strategic openings for cross ventilation and framed views of meadow and forest.

What We Love: This beautiful waterfront refuge offers a fantastic open and free-flowing concept with clean lines and functional furniture pieces. We are especially loving the living room, with its serene green wall that takes its cue from the natural environment seen through the large windows. A cozy place to relax, entertain and enjoy the magnificent views.
