This inviting beach style home was designed by Brandon Architects in collaboration with Patterson Custom Homes, located in the hillside community of Corona Highlands, Newport Beach, California. The builders value-engineered the lot to maximize the square footage and overall “wow factor” of the design. This home boasts 8,235 square feet of living space with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a four-car garage.
The original home was raised fifteen feet from the street level, so the builders recommended cutting down the mountain (which turned out to be granite requiring innovative techniques to excavate and grade) to the gulley to daylight the property and gain additional square footage on the lot. This process made it possible for the home to have a full walk-out basement which became the home’s main entertaining area complete with a family room, theater, bar, and game room.
Project Team: Architect: Brandon Architects | Builder: Patterson Custom Homes | Interior Designer: Tru. Studio
The basement excavation preserved the homeowners’ views from the second floor and allowed us to build a private master suite on the third floor with expansive views from the gulley to the ocean—clear to Catalina. For natural light to penetrate all the way to the basement level, the project team built an open atrium at the stairwell with skylights and a layered glass chandelier with pendants at each landing.
What We Love: This inviting beach style home incorporates some incredible features, including a gourmet kitchen and two-story glass wine installment. A fabulous great room is bright and airy thanks to skylights and pocketing doors systems that invite the outdoors inside. Overall this is one ultra-fabulous home for living and entertaining in style.
