This modern stone dwelling features an open and airy layout, designed by Stocker Hoesterey Montenegro Architects, located in Preston Hollow, a neighborhood in north Dallas, Texas. The dwelling is sited far back on its lot for privacy, appearing to hover above the ground. “It is at once light, even ethereal, while also being unquestionably natural, solid, and unmovable,” states the architects.

The homeowners requested that the architects designed their residence to feature clean, contemporary lines with an uncluttered floorplan. They sought to have a warm color palette with plenty of texture, as rich as their Texas history. Since the property is deep, the structure was set back into the forested site. It appears to the eye to be suspended in and above the slightly sloped landscape, which glides under and through the house.

Expansive windows illuminates the interior with natural light into, creating a feeling of openness, visually connecting through the spaces. From the exterior, stacked stone and cut Leuders helps to anchor the structure to its surrounding natural environment. The architects have designed the fireplace as well as adjustable louvers to enable the homeowners to screen private areas of their residence from the street. Clerestory windows helps to enable light to spill into the living spaces, creating a bright and airy abode.

What We Love: This spectacular stone dwelling offers its homeowners plenty of clever design features to allow for privacy while at the same time offering plenty of natural light. Warmth seems to radiate throughout the interiors thanks to material elements of stone and wood.
