This striking architectural masterpiece was designed by one of our favorites, Locati Architects, located in beautiful Seeley-Swan Valley in Western Montana. This rustic retreat is surrounded by lush meadows, stocked ponds, streams and rugged mountains in the background. The 12,000 square foot residence features two separate structures connected to the main house by glass corridors. The exterior facade is comprised of wood, glass and stone, an ideal aesthetic in this locale. The architects maximized the vistas that surrounds this home, incorporating expansive windows throughout. This also helps to illuminate the spaces of this sprawling retreat with natural light. The homeowners are from Texas, building this as a vacation home for their kids and grandkids to gather together on a regular basis. Their property consists of a sprawling 44,000 acres, talk about a lot of privacy!
At the front of the property, is a heli-pad for the homeowner, who frequently pilots his own helicopter. Snow-capped mountains can be seen in the distance. At the rear of the site, you will find plenty of outdoor seating areas. Adirondack chairs wrap around fire pits, creating a nice ambiance to enjoy sunsets. On one side of the home you will also find a spa, perfect for taking the chill off a crisp Montana evening. And don’t get us started on that beautiful pond, who needs a swimming pool when you can refresh in nature? Imagine getting cozy in your master bedroom with views of a rippling pond, greenery for miles and beyond to mountains. Now this is a home we would love to come home to! Look on for the rest of the home tour!
There were a few requests from the homeowners concerning the design of this home. This included providing enough space for both friends and family. The idea was to give privacy to both of their grow sons and their families so they each had a private home to retreat to on the property. The design also needed to feel intimate enough for when the couple was visiting the property by themselves.
What We Love: Where do we start? This Montana retreat is simply stunning, there is so much attention to detail everywhere you look. The beautiful surroundings with natural looking streams and ponds to the rugged mountains in the distance, what a relaxing environment. The exterior facade is breathtaking and although large, it feels more intimate in scale the way the architects broke up the structure into three parts. The great room is exceptional with its soaring ceilings, stone fireplace and well-appointed furnishings. The windows throughout perfectly frames the essence of this home; a place where family and friends come to relax and soak-in nature.
Readers, is there anything you would like to add? We would love to hear your feedback on what you think of the design of this home. What is your most favorite feature?
