A majestic villa comprised of concrete, glass, stone and steel is perched high atop a rocky hillside overlooking the South China Sea, in the historic fishing village of Shek-O, Hong Kong Island. Olson Kundig Architects designed the home to maximize the breathtaking views of the property and the coastal scenery. Large expanses of glass helps to capture these views, while seamless connections between indoors and out helps merge the home into the landscape. Generous roof overhangs helps to protect the home from the elements. A formal entryway into the villa is accessible through a spacious central courtyard that showcases a beautiful reflecting pool. Flanking either side of the entry is the living and dining room, while the private living zones bookend the single level layout. A second, infinity edge pool travels along the side of the home that faces the ocean, visually merging the water with the island-studded coastline in the distance.

The home’s interior design scheme is inspired by traditional Chinese architecture and furnishings. A simple palette of materials was selected for use throughout, comprising of concrete, steel, wood, limestone and glass. The materials rely on exacting detail and superb craftsmanship to provide an aesthetic that is visually magnificent.
